The beloved 702 Walk the Talk is making a powerful comeback this year, and it promises to be more meaningful than ever. Scheduled for Sunday, 27 July 2025, this year’s edition not only marks the return of one of Gauteng’s most iconic community events – it also commemorates a remarkable milestone: 702’s 45th anniversary.
The walk is being hosted in partnership with Freedom Park in the City of Tshwane and is set to begin at the historic Freedom Park site, with participants ending their journey at the newly upgraded Southern Lawns of the Union Buildings. This symbolic route reflects South Africa’s heritage, progress, and the spirit of unity the event has come to represent over the years.
Walkers can choose between three distances:
A 4km Fun Walk, ideal for families and casual strollers
A 6.7km Mandela Tribute Walk, honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela
An 8km Challenge Walk, perfect for those looking to push themselves further
Entry fees range from R300 to R360 for adults, and R190 to R200 for children under 12. Children under the age of three may participate for free, provided they’re accompanied by a registered further.
Given the popularity of the event and the limitations on parking at both the start and finish lines, a Park & Ride system will be in operation. Participants coming from Pretoria can catch a bus from Unisa, Menlyn, or Fountains Valley for R60, while those coming from Johannesburg can use Mall of Africa, Montecasino, Melrose Arch, or Sandton City at R130 per person. Buses will begin running from 6:00 AM, with the last return bus departing from the Union Buildings at 4:30 PM.
Organisers are also encouraging corporate and group entries of 15 or more people. Family and friends can register multiple participants in a single transaction online, making the process smoother than ever.
Mzo Jojwana, Chief Content Officer at Primedia Broadcasting, reflected on the deeper meaning behind this year’s walk:
“As we celebrate 45 years of 702, the Walk the Talk embodies our commitment to community and connection. Together, we walk not just for ourselves, but for the legacy of those who fought for our freedom and the future we are building together.”
Entries close on 23 July 2025 or once entry limits are reached. Those wishing to be part of this moving celebration are encouraged to sign up early to avoid disappointment.
Whether you’re walking in memory, in celebration, or simply in solidarity, the 702 Walk the Talk 2025 invites all South Africans to walk the talk and make history together.
