BIKO BOOK REVIEW: “Ndibhala Intando Yam” (a translation of I Write What I Like)

By Nelvis Qekema: Steve Biko's book, 'I Write What I Like' has been translated into Xhosa. IMAGE: Courtesy Bridge Books On 21 March 2026, I had the honour of attending the historic launch of the isiXhosa translation edition of Steve Biko’s book 'I Write What I Like' at the Steve Biko Centre in Ginsberg, eQonce, Eastern Cape. I have no doubt that I represent the entire nation in doffing my hat to the Biko family for a job well done. Having passed on shortly before the publishing of this edition in 2025, Prof Peter Tshobisa Mtuze, who did this isiXhosa translation, could not be present to lead the presentation. Biko’s son, Nkosinathi Biko and Dr Athambile Masola were there to do the good work. Anyway, Dr Masola did the sweeping and umpiring work to have the last ...

By Katlego Rammusa: (Image: Katlego Rammusa) The book, Becoming a Great Leader, presents a thoughtful and inspiring perspective on what it truly means to lead. By Katlego Rammusa: (Image: Katlego Rammusa) Many people live on planet earth and die without even discovering their purpose in life, having questions like: Where am I from? Why am I here? BOOK REVIEW: Everything Changed The Moment I Met Jesus

By Katlego Rammusa: This isn’t a book about the structures of religion; it’s about the heartbeat of a relationship. In this book,  'All About Jesus, My Journey, His Glory' by Gerida, I invite you into the raw, unpolished corners of my life. These pages carry the weight of my walk with Him, the mountain top highs, the shattering heartaches, the quiet surrenders, and the moments when His love became more real than the breath in my lungs. Within these stories, you’ll discover: 1. Beauty in the Broken: How He meets us in our lowest points to begin the work of restoration. 2. Peace Beyond Understanding: How to find stillness when the world around you is in chaos. 3. Ordinary Glory: How God turns "normal" days into a living testimony of His Grace. 4. ...

A Book Store With a Difference: Situated Right At the Centre of Pheli, Our Kasi

By Katlego Rammusa: ANT THOU SLUGGARD BOOK STORE: Katlego Rammusa's book shop in Atteridgeville, that emerged from humble beginnings (Image: Katlego Rammusa) There’s something about the rustle of turning pages, the scent of fresh ink, and the gentle buzz of readers gathering around a story that speaks to them and the content that is relatable. Some days are not forgettable as I was pondering upon a time on the 27th of May 2025, when I opened a book store in a township, which is very rare as some mainstream book stores have failed dismally doing business in townships. Some people thought I was going to fail as well; however, guess what? I am still in business even today. I give all the glory to  Jesus. On the day of the opening, the magic was alive and well in th...

A wedding unites two families; however, sometimes it tears them apart when love meets envy and loyalty is tested by deceit.  One dress becomes a symbol of everything lost and in this gripping family drama, a bride's joy turns to heartbreak when her manipulative sister-in-law weaves lies, secrets and betrayal into a fabric of their lives. A Battlefield of Jealousy and Revenge As trust crumbles and hidden truths surface, the once-happy home becomes a battlefield of jealousy and revenge. Can forgiveness mend what manipulation destroyed? Or will the power of a single wedding dress leave scars that never fade? Most Marriages' Destinies are Decided Through This Dress Some cultures dictate that the Wedding Dress should only be delivered to the Bride on the celebration morning....

Launching an inspiring book by an inspiring author, Sabata Mokae

By Katlego Rammusa Author Sabata Mokae being interviewed by fellow Author and host, Katlego Rammusa, during Mokae's book launch. (Image: Supplied) The 29th January 2026 was an amazing night where I hosted author Sabata Mokae, one of South African Literary giants, to launch his book in Atteridgeville's Nkomo Village Mall (The Ark) at our Ant Thou Sluggard BookStore. The title of his book is ' Lefatshe kela Badimo,' meaning the land is of the ancestors, which was inspired by Native Life in South Africa (1916), a novel by Sol Plaatjie on the Native Land Act of 2013. The day was marked by a little bit of entertainment before I reviewed the book. We featured the performances from local artists, namely Tiego with his dancers and The Evas, because we also wanted to sh...

A book launch with a difference where music and dance featured and talent unveiled

We had a little bit of entertainment before I reviewed the book, performances from local artists, namely Tiego with his dancers and The Evas, because we also showcase local talent at Nkomo Village Mall ( The Ark). The book launch was both celebratory and grounding, a rare concoction of excitement and reflection. The turnout was warm and engaged, with thoughtful questions and ge...

JACKIE  PHAMOTSE RETURNS  WITH THE ADVOCATE: Power, betrayal, and the fragile cost of legacy

By Sitha Maliwa: When Jackie Phamotse writes, South Africa listens. The bestselling, award-winning author - whose words have long peeled back the layers of wealth, power, and survival  - has returned with a new literary storm: The Advocate. The novel arrives as the highly anticipated follow-up to her acclaimed The Tea Merchant (longlisted for the Sunday Times Fiction Award and shortlisted for the SA Book Awards). With The Advocate, Phamotse once again dares readers to step into a world where polished facades mask rotting empires, and where love and corruption wage war over the soul of a family. Set against the brooding landscapes of Clanwilliam, The Advocate chronicles the slow, devastating collapse of the Coal family empire. Beneath the grandeur of their name lie...
