The stage has officially been set for what promises to be the biggest celebration of media excellence in the province’s history. The 2025 North West Media Awards unveiled its nominees on Friday at BMW Rustenburg, igniting a wave of excitement across newsrooms, radio stations, digital platforms, and community outlets.

With more than 150 nominees spanning 16 categories and over 600 entries submitted, this year’s awards have already shattered records. But the numbers tell only part of the story. For journalists, broadcasters, and storytellers across the North West, these awards represent more than accolades — they symbolise integrity, recognition, and the power of community media to shape society.

In a historic first, the awards will be staged under the Compassion Awards Foundation and Investments (CAFI), a newly registered Non-Profit Company dedicated to driving social impact. CAFI has vowed to not only elevate the prestige of the North West Media Awards but also spearhead other initiatives that give back to communities.

At the helm is a powerhouse board, chaired by Ms. Brenda Ramokopelwa, alongside respected leaders including Berlina Lekgethwane,  Ralph Makhanya, Dr. Koketso Rakhudu, Gaisang Mogale,  Mabu Mosadikwena, and  Gili Ramalekana.

Founder Ananias Ndlovu, delivering an impassioned address, captured the soul of the awards:

“The North West Media Awards are more than just a ceremony – they are a platform to safeguard journalistic integrity, reward commitment, and inspire the next generation of storytellers. This year’s record participation is proof of the impact and importance of community media in shaping our society.”

His words drew applause, resonating deeply with nominees and industry peers in attendance.

The credibility of the awards rests on the shoulders of an impressive judging panel, which includes Ms. Liza Jay, Mr. Oupa Segalwe, Mr. Cornelius Monama, Ms. Shirley Montsho, Mr. Lucky Mediwane, and Ms. Annemarie Marx. Together, they are tasked with sifting through the province’s best talent to crown the champions of 2025.

The journey to glory is far from over. Nominees must confirm their participation by 30 August 2025, with those in public-voting categories submitting official headshots for promotional campaigns. The voting and judging window will open from 01 September until 30 November 2025, before independent auditors step in to verify results.

All roads then lead to the glittering gala on 05 December 2025, where the final winners will be unveiled in a night of prestige, passion, and pride.
