Siwelele FC hosted Sekhukhune United in their Betway Premiership encounter on Friday, 31 October 2025, at the Dr Rantlai Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The much-anticipated match was delayed due to severe weather conditions, as heavy rain and thunderstorms swept across the area.

Siwelele’s great energy vs Sekhukhune’s counter-attack

When the game finally kicked off, Siwelele showed great energy and determination. Within the first three minutes, they created a dangerous set-piece opportunity, but Lungu Gampani was unable to convert it.

Siwelele continued to dominate possession and later earned a free kick, yet Neo Rapoo failed to finish clearly, leaving the score at 0-0.

In the 12th minute, Sekhukhune United launched a quick counter-attack, but their shot went straight out of play. The game became more physical as both teams battled for control.

Sekhukhune maintains fighting spirit

Bradley Grobler of Sekhukhune received a yellow card after a rough tackle on Grant Margerman. Despite the foul, Sekhukhune did not lose their fighting spirit and continued to apply pressure with consecutive corner kicks that tested Siwelele’s defence.

In the 36th minute, Sekhukhune nearly took the lead through a rebound, but the referee ruled it offside. This decision caused frustration on the Sekhukhune bench, leading to assistant coach Marc Van Heerden being shown a red card in the 38th minute for protesting. The first half ended goalless at 0-0.

Siwelele’s persistence pays off

The second half was briefly interrupted again due to lightning, forcing a temporary pause. When play resumed, Siwelele’s persistence paid off in the 72nd minute when Siviwe Magidigidi scored the opening goal.

Just two minutes later, Sekhukhune were awarded a penalty, but their effort was saved brilliantly by goalkeeper Gross. Siwelele held on to their narrow 1-0 lead until the final whistle, securing a hard-fought victory in challenging weather conditions. –  @NewsSA_Online
