Siwelele FC welcomed Mamelodi Sundowns for their Betway Premiership clash following a draw against Chippa United. The match took place at the Dr. Rantlai Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, where the atmosphere was electric from the first whistle.
Early Pressure From Both Teams
In the opening minutes, the stadium erupted as both sets of supporters sang passionately for their teams.
In the 10th minute, Masandawana applied early pressure with a headed effort inside the box, but the chance went wide. Four minutes later, in the 14th minute, Siwelele showed their strength. A long ball from the goalkeeper found Vincent Pule on a promising run, but striker Siviwe Magidigidi failed to control the final touch, giving Ronwen Williams an easy save.
Siwelele Strike First
Sundowns continued to press from different angles, but Siwelele’s defence stood firm, pushed on by fans chanting: “Mona haratlelela Masandawana!” Then, in the 26th minute, Siwelele’s pressure paid off.
A defensive mistake from Sundowns left a loose ball inside the box, and Vincent Pule reacted quickly, firing home to give the hosts a 1–0 lead. The stadium erupted again, with supporters singing their famous line: “Thiba ka mona, re bolaya ntha tsena!”
Strong Defensive Effort Before Halftime
Sundowns tried to respond in the 38th minute, but Siwelele cleared a dangerous ball inside the six-yard area. The home side stayed calm and organised, taking a 1–0 lead into the halftime break.
Bright Start, But Sundowns Grow Stronger
In the second half, Siwelele returned from the break looking confident. Their supporters were loud, urging the team to keep their momentum. Both teams battled for control in midfield, but Sundowns slowly took more possession.
In the 50th minute, Lucas Ribeiro tested the Siwelele keeper with a low shot, but it was saved well. Siwelele answered back in the 57th minute with a fast counter-attack, but the final shot went wide.
Mothiba Levels for Sundowns
Sundowns kept moving the ball around, searching for space. Their pressure finally paid off. In the 73rd minute, Lebo Mothiba scored with a calm finish inside the box after a neat passing move on the left. The equaliser briefly silenced the home crowd.
Red Card Shakes Sundowns
The game opened up again, with both sides pushing. But things changed in the 84th minute when Teboho Mokoena was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. He arrived late in a midfield challenge and caught the Siwelele player on the foot. The referee showed the red card immediately.
Late Chances for Siwelele
With Sundowns down to ten men, Siwelele pushed forward with everything they had. In the 88th minute, a cross from the left found a Siwelele winger, but his header went straight at Ronwen Williams. In the 90+3rd minute, Siwelele won one last corner. The ball bounced dangerously inside the box, but no one could finish it. Sundowns cleared, and the referee blew the final whistle. – @NewsSA_Online
