In a tough period for Marumo Gallants, the Free State club has suffered consecutive defeats in the Betway Premiership, leaving them under increasing pressure as the league season unfolds.
On Wednesday, 28 January 2026, Marumo Gallants hosted Kaizer Chiefs at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium but were beaten 1-0 by Amakhosi. Chiefs’ Makabi Lilepo scored the only goal in the 67th minute to secure the win and hand Gallants a frustrating home defeat.
Then, on Saturday, 31 January 2026, Gallants were again on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline, this time against AmaZulu FC at the same stadium. The only goal came from Mondli Mbanjwa in the second half, as Usuthu took all three points and continued their league campaign with momentum.
These back-to-back losses have compounded Marumo Gallants’ recent struggles. According to the latest available Betway Premiership standings, Gallants sit 13th on the table with 15 points from 16 games, having won just three matches all season, a tally that places them close to the relegation fight rather than in mid-table comfort.
This difficult run has put pressure on the players and coaching staff, as expectations were to build a more stable campaign. Results like these raise concerns among supporters that the season might become a fight for survival rather than a push for higher league positions.
