Police have launched a double murder investigation after two people were found shot dead in the early hours of Tuesday morning near Masilo Old Cemetery in Lusaka Park, Theunissen.
The victims, a man and a woman believed to be in their mid-30s, were discovered at the scene shortly after midnight.
The shooting reported just after midnight
Officers were alerted to a shooting incident at about 00:29 on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. On arrival, police found a white Ashok Leyland Phoenix vehicle standing in the middle of the road.
An African male was found lying on the roadway near the vehicle. He was wearing black trousers, a grey T-shirt and a grey-and-black tracksuit jacket, and had sustained two gunshot wounds to the face.

Inside the vehicle, police discovered an African female, also believed to be in her mid-30s. She was wearing green tracksuit pants and a peach long-sleeved sweater and was wrapped in a blue polar fleece blanket. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, leg and arm.
Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the scene and both victims were declared dead on arrival.
Serious crimes unit takes over
Theunissen SAPS has opened two counts of murder. Due to the nature of the crime, the investigation has been taken over by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime, Murder and Robbery Unit.
Police said the motive for the killings remains unknown at this stage, and the identities of the deceased have not yet been formally confirmed.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.
