The day was filled with happiness and celebration as the school library of Thohoyandou Primary at Atteridgeville, Pretoria, was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
The joyful and inspiring ceremony was attended by students, teachers, parents, and special guests who came to witness as I donated several of my books to the newly opened library. The gesture brought excitement and smiles to the faces of the school community.
The event began with a warm and welcoming speech by the school principal, who highlighted the importance of reading in shaping young minds and building a brighter future for them. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the formal opening of the library, followed by applause and excitement from the students.
The newly opened library is well-equipped with a wide collection of books, including storybooks, reference materials, encyclopedias, and magazines. The space is designed to provide a quiet and comfortable environment that encourages learning, imagination, and creativity. As in any learning environment, silence during reading or studying is the rule.
Students eagerly explored the shelves, flipping through the books and choosing their favourites. Teachers expressed happiness, noting that the library will greatly support academic growth and develop good reading habits among students.
