The China-South Africa Youth Federation (CSAYF) expresses deep concern regarding recent developments involving the Islamic Republic of Iran and reports of military actions attributed to the United States government.
Guided by the foreign policy principles of the Republic of China and the Republic of South Africa – both rooted in sovereignty, non–interference, peaceful resolution of disputes, and respect for international law – we strongly reaffirm our commitment to justice, peace and multilateralism.
We condemn any violation of international law and emphasize the fundamental importance of the United Nations Charter. In particular, we highlight Article 2 (4), which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state and Article 51 of the Charter, which recognizes the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence in the event of an armed attack, pending action by the Security Council.
As the China-South Africa Youth Federation, we call for:
· Immediate de-escalation of tensions;
· Full respect for international law;
· Dialogue and diplomacy as the primary means of conflict resolution;
· Protection of civilian lives and infrastructure.
As a commitment of the G20 countries in South Africa, we have committed ourselves to Equality, Solidarity and Sustainability and therefore the actions of the US are contrary to those principles.
Furthermore, we extend our sincere condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran following reports of the passing of the Supreme Leader.
We convey our deepest sympathies to his family and the Iranian nation during this period of mourning. We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran and express hope for stability, unity and peace.
At this critical time, we urge all parties to exercise restraint and to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful mechanisms in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and established principles of international law.
