The roar of the crowd at Steyn City has barely faded, yet the future of world-class golf in South Africa is already locked in. The global golf powerhouse LIV Golf has officially confirmed that it will return to the country in 2027 following what is shaping up to be the largest professional golf event ever staged on South African soil.
The announcement, made during a high-profile press conference ahead of the final round of the inaugural LIV Golf South Africa tournament, confirmed that the spectacle will once again take place at The Club at Steyn City from 22 to 25 April 2027.
With more than 100,000 fans flocking to Steyn City throughout the week, the event has already carved its place in history – rewriting attendance records and igniting a festival-style atmosphere rarely seen in the sport.
The inaugural tournament has blended elite competition with a world-class entertainment lineup, drawing massive crowds eager to witness golf’s biggest names compete alongside live music and immersive fan experiences.
The grand finale promises even more excitement as South African crowds prepare to celebrate the tournament’s close with performances by international artists St. Lucia and GoldFish, bringing a high-energy soundtrack to a historic sporting moment.
For Scott O’Neil, CEO of LIV Golf, the success of the inaugural event reaffirmed the country’s place in the global golf landscape.
“We’ve long believed South Africa has a deep love for the game,” he said. “This week proved it. The passion of the fans, the quality of the golf and the incredible energy here have made this one of the standout events on our global calendar.”
He added that LIV Golf’s return signals a long-term commitment to the region and to growing the sport across the continent.
South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, described the tournament as far more than just a sporting event.
“This week has shown the world what South Africa can deliver,” McKenzie said. “Events like this stimulate tourism, create jobs and inspire young athletes across the country. LIV Golf returning in 2027 is a major win for South Africa.”
For the South African home team Southern Guards GC, the tournament has been a deeply emotional experience. Competing in front of passionate home crowds has added a new layer of meaning to the competition.
General Manager Richard Glover said the atmosphere throughout the week has been unforgettable.
“To see fans turn out in these numbers shows just how much this country loves world-class golf. Playing at home means everything to the team.”
Across its 14-event international schedule, LIV Golf tournaments have already generated over $1 billion in economic impact for host cities worldwide, boosting tourism and hospitality sectors while reaching a global broadcast audience of more than 900 million viewers.
With the inaugural South African edition already rewriting the record books, the return of LIV Golf to Steyn City in 2027 promises something even bigger.
