RAND SHOW 2026 OPENS WITH A BANG: A full experience for all

By Sitha Maliwa:

The gates have opened, the crowds are streaming in, and across the sprawling grounds of the Johannesburg Expo Centre, the atmosphere is electric –  the Rand Show 2026 is officially underway.

Running from 2 to 6 April, South Africa’s largest and most iconic consumer show returns with renewed energy and ambition. From 09h00 to 19h00 daily, with gates closing at 18h00, the event promises five full days of shopping, entertainment, family fun, and immersive experiences. At its core lies a simple but powerful promise: a full day out with something for everyone.

From the moment visitors step onto the grounds, the show reveals itself as a vibrant, living story – layered with colour, sound, and experiences too vast to take in all at once.

A stage that never sleeps

At the heart of the excitement is the Main Stage, where music and live performance set the pulse of the event. Opening day sees dynamic acts like JazziQ and Mr Keyz ignite the atmosphere, setting the tone for what lies ahead.

Over the next few days, the stage becomes a celebration of South African sound, with powerhouse performances from Nkosazana Daughter, Mörda, Zola 7, and Kelvin Momo. High-energy showcases by Soweto’s Finest and OVERJOY ensure the rhythm of the Rand Show never fades.

Each performance is more than entertainment  – it is a reflection of the country’s rich and evolving cultural heartbeat.

Where imagination runs wild

Step into Hall 8, and the world transforms. The Kids’ Zone has evolved into a fully immersive universe designed to spark creativity and wonder. At its centre is Jungle Magic, a sensory adventure filled with bold colours, jungle soundscapes, towering creatures, and even an indoor waterfall experience.

Daily shows featuring Dienkie and Doodles and Freddy the Frog and Ivy’s Wild Adventure keep young audiences captivated, while interactive play zones, trampolines, learning spaces, and parent lounges ensure a complete family experience.

Here, laughter becomes the soundtrack  –  and imagination knows no limits.

Entertainment meets purpose

Beyond the spectacle, the Rand Show 2026 carries a deeper vision –  one firmly focused on the future.

For the first time, a dedicated Tech and Gaming Arena takes centre stage, offering a space where entertainment meets education. Visitors can explore robotics, coding, and programming through hands-on demonstrations, while school tournaments introduce elements of strategy and competition.

Digital literacy sessions and career-focused engagements open doors for young people, transforming curiosity into confidence and possibility. It is a space designed not just to entertain, but to empower – particularly for a generation stepping into a rapidly evolving digital world.

In every sense, it is entertainment with purpose.

A show that evolves with its people

What continues to set the Rand Show apart is its ability to evolve – to reflect the needs, interests, and aspirations of South Africans.

This year’s edition blends world-class entertainment with meaningful experiences. It balances nostalgia with innovation, celebration with education, and spectacle with substance. As thousands continue to pass through the gates, one thing becomes clear: the Rand Show 2026 is not just an event. It is an experience.- @NewsSA_Online
