After six rounds of the SA Cup, the standings have begun to solidify, revealing a competition defined by a dominant frontrunner and an increasingly competitive race for playoff positions.
At the top of the table, the Griquas have delivered a near-flawless campaign. With six victories from six matches, they remain the only unbeaten side in the tournament. Their statistical superiority is striking: 397 points scored and only 59 conceded, resulting in a remarkable points difference of +338. Accumulating 30 log points, Griquas have established a significant lead and set a high standard for the rest of the field.
In second place, the Pumas have also produced an impressive run of form, securing five wins and a single draw. With 296 points scored and a healthy points difference of +219, they remain within reach of the summit, although they will require consistency and favourable results to close the gap.
The Cheetahs occupy third position with four wins, one draw, and one defeat. Their balanced approach, evident in both attack and defence, has earned them 23 points, keeping them firmly in contention as the competition progresses.
The contest for fourth and fifth positions is tightly contested between the SWD Eagles and the Boland Cavaliers. SWD have secured four victories but trails slightly in points difference, while Boland’s +142 suggests a capacity to challenge higher-ranked teams. With only two points separating them, this segment of the table remains highly fluid.
Further down the standings, the Valke and the Griffons have struggled to maintain consistency, each registering two wins against four losses. Defensive shortcomings have been a recurring issue, reflected in their negative point differences.
At the lower end of the table, the Eastern Province Elephants, Leopards, and the Border Bulldogs face significant challenges. Border remain winless after six matches and have conceded the highest number of points in the competition, underscoring the scale of their task in the remaining fixtures.
As the tournament advances, the hierarchy is becoming increasingly defined. While Griquas have established themselves as clear leaders, the battle for playoff qualification, particularly among the mid-table teams, remains competitive.
