The Diphetogo Fine Art Exhibition will bring together some of the North West Province’s most promising visual artists from 25–29 August 2026 at Mmabana Taung, under the powerful theme:
“Diphetogo – A Homage to Women Who Brought About Change in Your Life.”
Presented by Motswako Culture (Pty) Ltd, the exhibition invites artists to reflect on the women whose courage, leadership and influence have shaped families, communities and society through compelling works of visual art.
Selected artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their work, receive an exhibition participation fee and engage with audiences in one of the province’s most significant cultural spaces.
A Fitting Home for Transformation
The Diphetogo Fine Art Exhibition will be hosted at Mmabana Taung, a venue that has long played an important role in the cultural and artistic development of the North West Province.
For decades, Mmabana has provided spaces where creativity, cultural expression and
artistic talent have flourished, making it an appropriate setting for an exhibition centred on
transformation, heritage and social change.
Hosting Diphetogo at Mmabana Taung acknowledges the institution’s enduring contribution
to community arts while reaffirming the importance of accessible cultural infrastructure in
growing South Africa’s creative economy.
As artists gather to honour women whose lives and leadership have shaped our communities, the venue becomes more than an exhibition
space—it becomes a meeting point between history, creativity and the future.
Celebrating Taung’s Cultural Heritage
Taung itself carries profound historical significance. Internationally recognised as the site where the Taung Child fossil was discovered, the region occupies an important place in the
story of human origins. It is also a landscape rich in Setswana heritage, living traditions and community resilience.
Presenting the Diphetogo Fine Art Exhibition in Taung celebrates not only artistic excellence but also the deep cultural roots from which stories of change continue to emerge.
By bringing artists, audiences and cultural practitioners together in this historic setting, Diphetogo contributes to the Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) vision of strengthening local creative industries, expanding public access to the arts, promoting cultural tourism and creating sustainable opportunities for visual artists in the North West Province.
A Legacy That Inspires
Since opening its flagship centre in Mmabatho in 1991, Mmabana has become one of the North West’s most recognised cultural landmarks.
Through its network of centres across the province, it has provided generations of artists with spaces to learn, collaborate and develop their creative potential.
Over the years, the institution has been associated with many celebrated South African creatives, including HHP, Presley Chweneyagae, Morafe, Mo Molemi, Khuli Chana, Aus Tebza, Thebe Lenyora and Stone Seate.
Their achievements stand as a testament to the value of accessible arts infrastructure and creative development within local communities.
While the Diphetogo Fine Art Exhibition is independently presented by Motswako Culture (Pty) Ltd, hosting the exhibition at Mmabana Taung honours the institution’s longstanding place within the province’s cultural landscape and reinforces the importance of preserving spaces where creativity continues to thrive.
Call for Artists
North West Province visual artists residing in the are invited to submit six or more artworks for consideration.
Submissions must include:

● JPEG or PNG images organised in a folder
