CYBERSECURITY IN SOUTH AFRICA: How the Cell C & SABS attacks could have been prevented

Companies, in fact, all organisations that have online operations where they process information or data are at risk of cyberattacks, and the problem, instead of decreasing, is getting worse with time. Recently, top companies in South Africa experienced cyberattacks that paralysed their systems after a cyber-attacker targeted their systems and stole sensitive data.
With between 150 and 300 cyberattacks reported each month, as recorded by the Information Regulator, South Africa is in for a tough period ahead in dealing with the problem, as many incidents go unnoticed. However, such online attacks could be prevented if the organisations employ proper strategies to deal with them head-on.
