FROM STREET TO SCREEN: Eastern Cape’s new film sensation

By Sitha Maliwa: In what could be a major boost for the film industry in the Eastern Cape, a locally produced movie is set to showcase the province’s untapped acting talent. The much-anticipated film, Rhythm of the Street - featuring largely inexperienced but gifted young actors from the province - is set to premiere on Thursday in December at Hemingways Mall in East London. The storyline tackles social issues such as the abuse of young women, particularly students who become sexually exploited by older men due to financial vulnerability. According to the filmmakers, the movie aims to expose harsh realities while opening conversations around accountability, protection and empowerment. The film, whose teaser clips have gone viral on social media and ge...

FROM FAN TO FASHION KING: Man B becomes the new face of Bogart Man

By Sitha Maliwa: In a move that blends street charisma with sartorial elegance, fashion powerhouse Bogart Man has crowned a new king of style. Man B Tyekana, the magnetic entertainer and entrepreneur from East London, is now the official face of the brand - a bold and inspired choice that’s shaking up the African fashion landscape. The announcement, made at Bogart’s ultra-modern headquarters in Sandton, Johannesburg, felt less like a corporate deal and more like the beginning of a fashion renaissance. Bogart Man, known for its unapologetically sharp tailoring, global flair,...

“I’VE NEVER  MET MY FATHER”: Man B’s Father’s Day reflections rooted in love and loss

By Sitha Maliwa: Man B, (Image: supplied) For celebrated businessman and entertainer Mlindelwa "Man B" Tyekana, Father's Day is not a celebration, but a quiet, aching reminder of absence, of unanswered questions, and of the strength it took to rise beyond them. Despite his flamboyant public persona and status as a highly respected record label owner and security mogul, Man B carries a deeply personal void: he has never met his biological father. Raised by a stepfather who gave his all, Man B grew up in a home filled with care, but not without longing. "I've never met my father and I never took it upon myself to look for him. I really didn't see the need because the love I got from my stepfather was sufficient," he shares, his voice steady, yet carrying the we...

INJUSTICE: 15 years later, still no justice for Akhona Geveza in a system that buries the truth

By News SA: Akhona Geveza (Image:Facebook) 15 years ago, a young and promising life was stolen. Today, her voice still echoes — unanswered, unheard. Akhona Geveza, a 19-year-old maritime cadet from the rural Nxarhuni in East London, South Africa, embarked on a Transnet learnership with dreams of building a better future. She never made it back home, dying mysteriously in the foreign high seas in the hands of those who were supposed to look after her as an intern. In June 2010, her lifeless body was found floating off the coast of Croatia while aboard a Safmarine vessel. Before her death, Akhona confided in her father that she was being sexually harassed by a senior officer on the ship — a man who referred to her as "his wife." She feared for her life, and tra...
