“I WANT JUSTICE”: Mother of teen brutally assaulted by peers refuses out-of-court settlement

By Sitha Maliwa:

In a case that has shaken the nation and reignited urgent conversations about youth violence, the mother of a 14-year-old girl viciously assaulted by her peers has taken a firm stand: there will be no backroom deals, no quiet settlements – only justice.

The harrowing attack, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, shows a group of girls, all between the ages of 14 and 17, turning on a fellow teenager with shocking violence. The footage sparked widespread outrage, leading to the arrest of seven girls on Monday. They made their second appearance in court on Wednesday.

But behind the headlines is a mother who refuses to be silenced or swayed.

From the outset, she says authorities urged her to seek a resolution outside the courtroom. But even after speaking to the parents of her child’s attackers, she was left with more questions than answers, and a renewed determination to pursue justice through the courts.

“We ended up speaking to all parents. I said every parent should give me R3,000. They said they could only do R1,000 on the 28th of May. I then went to the police station,” she explained, her voice heavy with frustration and disbelief.

What began as a supposed gathering among friends turned into a nightmare. The mother says her daughter was lured to the house – a betrayal by someone she trusted.

The aftermath has left deep scars. Though the young girl has returned to school, her mother says the emotional and physical toll is far from over.

The pain is raw. The wound is open. And for this mother, money is not the answer;  accountability is.

The accused, whose names are protected due to their ages, are scheduled to appear in court again next week. As the justice system prepares to weigh their actions, a country watches, waiting to see if it will deliver a response strong enough to match the brutality of the crime.

This is more than just a court case. It’s a cry for justice from a mother whose child was betrayed and beaten – and who refuses to let it be swept under the rug. – @NewsSA_Online
