In the heart of Soweto, in a tiny kitchen warmed by the smell of vanilla and ambition, a single mother once stood over five battered baking pans, determined to change the course of her family’s life. That woman was Constance Chauke – and the seed she planted in 2004 has grown into one of South Africa’s most inspiring SMME success stories: Conza’s Biscuits.

What began as a survival strategy has risen, against the odds, into a beloved national brand now touching homes, retailers, taxi ranks and major franchises across the country.

Constance started with almost nothing – no investors, no machinery, no factory. Just grit.  Her first customers were neighbours and busy commuters at the taxi ranks of Protea Glen Ext 11. She mixed, baked, packed, and sold every biscuit herself, sometimes producing up to 150 biscuits a day. Word spread. Her soft-spoken hustle became a whisper across the community: “Have you tasted Conza’s biscuits?”

Before long, the whisper became a movement. In 2017, the business officially incorporated, and Constance’s daughters – Rirhandzu and Rhulani – stepped in, transforming their mother’s kitchen dream into a proudly South African, all-women-owned enterprise with national reach.

Guided by their powerful vision – “The epitome of handmade goodness, touching the hearts of people worldwide with our delicious vanilla biscuits” – the Chauke sisters have turned Conza’s Biscuits into a name synonymous with heart, heritage, and handmade perfection.

Today, the business operates from spacious premises in Midrand and employs 16 people, many from neighbouring Tembisa, including young people and TVET students seeking workplace experience. A once-solo hustle is now a lifeline for families, a training ground for youth, and a source of pride for its community.

Even strong entrepreneurs stumble without resources. Conza’s next chapter was written when Tiger Brands’ Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) programme stepped in.

Tiger Brands provided manufacturing equipment, a delivery vehicle, and the crucial support that allowed Conza’s to fulfil its biggest franchise order to date.

“Support came where we needed it the most. We had no funds to fulfil a large franchise order… Support from Tiger Brands will help us attract more business, create more jobs, and innovate more using Tiger Brands products,” Constance says with gratitude as she looks back on the moment her business moved from surviving to scaling.

A powerful collaboration with Tiger Brands’ Golden Cloud has also elevated the brand’s recipe—ensuring every vanilla biscuit is infused with quality ingredients at affordable rates.

“Collaborating with Golden Cloud has improved the quality of our biscuits,” the family notes proudly.

From five pans to factory floors. From taxi rank customers to national retailers. From a mother’s determination to a family legacy lifting others. Conza’s Biscuits is not just a business -it is a South African story of resilience, innovation, and the power of women leading with purpose.

As the Chauke sisters look ahead, they remain steadfast: growth, innovation, and unwavering commitment to the handmade goodness that touched their first customers more than two decades ago.

Their journey is a reminder that sometimes, the sweetest success rises from the humblest kitchen, one biscuit at a time.- @NewsSA_Online
