The launch of Motswako: The Beginnings was a vibrant celebration of heritage, music, and storytelling. Held at Exclusive Books Rosebank, the event welcomed an esteemed lineup of dignitaries and cultural icons, each adding depth and resonance to the occasion.
The keynote speaker, His Excellency Mr Mostafa Daryabari, Cultural Ambassador of Iran, delivered a powerful address on the significance of the book and its role in honouring Batswana identity. His reflections on cultural preservation and artistic evolution set the tone for an evening steeped in pride and purpose.


” As the author, I guide readers through Motswako’s journey from its birthplace in Mafikeng to its current influence on pop culture and its future as a movement. The book documents milestones, celebrates pioneers, and explores the genre’s emotional and social impact, ” said Katlego Rammusa.
Among the special guests was Mr Oupa Segalwe, former Spokesperson of the Public Protector and a fellow author. A passionate supporter of the Motswako movement, he shared his heartfelt review of the book, highlighting its cultural relevance and storytelling power.
The launch was honoured by the presence of Professor Job Mokgoro, former Premier of the North West Province, who enthusiastically purchased the book and praised the documentation of Motswako’s legacy.
Entertainment on the night was electric, featuring performances by Elated Vocals, The Evas, Njabulo Mchunu, and Xelimpilo of Uhuru. Their artistry brought the spirit of Motswako to life, echoing the genre’s rhythm and soul.
