In a tense Betway premiership derby that had everything except goals, Marumo Gallants and Siwelele played out in a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Dr Molemela Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was a typical mid-to-lower table battle, with both sides focused on avoiding defeat rather than chasing victory. The defence remained in complete control throughout the match, even with numerous substitutions and the rise of pressure; neither team managed to produce the decisive finishing quality required to break the deadlock.
The field was filled with yellow cards, showing how physical and tense the battle became. Ndlondlo and Manaka were booked early on, while Siwelele, Moralo and Sithole also received bookings later in the game. Letshedi was shown a red card in the 50th minute, leaving Siwelele with only 10 men for the remaining 40 minutes. Despite their disadvantage, Siwelele defended firmly and held on strong.
For Gallants, it was another frustrating afternoon in front of their fans. They dominated ball possession and created more opportunities, but lacked the cutting edge up front. Siwelele, on the other hand, will be pleased with their performance and keep a clean sheet with only ten men. That is no small achievement in this league. Their resilience earned them a valuable point away, not having to worry much about the relegation battle.
Both teams remain in the lower half of the Betway Premier League table, and this result does little to ease the pressure as the season heads to the end.
