Marriage is a beautiful thing, and when one gets married, everybody celebrates, even your enemies come to enjoy the moment because they can’t miss it. As the saying from the Bible goes, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and receives favour from the Lord”.
So we celebrate you, Khuli Chana (Rapper) and your wife Lamiez(DJ).
The three-day wedding was an extravagant occasion in Mahikeng on 11 April when our ‘ Makoti’ was welcomed. The newlyweds just took us back to the 90s by bringing the Brass band. Back in the 80s and 90s, if you didn’t have a brass band, it was not a wedding. Trend-setters in their own right, Khuli Chana and DJ Lamiez, I am sure, will inspire a lot of people to go back in time to invite Brassbands on their wedding days.
Notable celebrities who were present at the wedding were DJ Fresh, Mmausi, Stone and Kaylow, who made people dance on their feet. Indeed, it was a wonderful celebration. It was actually great to have the legendary DJ Fresh grace the wedding with his presence. I mean, people like Fresh had given Motswako a lot of airplay back in the days of YFM. That’s if you remember ‘Thato and Thato’.
I was actually at 93.8 FM recently and Fresh was playing ‘Jozi City Lights’, and I was like, what? In 2026? You can now notice that Morafe was actually recording classical music. To notice the legendary Stone as well was overwhelming, ‘ Malome wa tsone’.
Amazing performance as well by Morafe. Towdeemac brought it back to Morafe days with ‘Ska rasa Wae Senya’ track, a classic hit that he composed on one hot summer day in Mmabatho; he brought that nostalgic Motswako fever.
Towdee took the crowd back to Lekoko la Lekoko days, when everyone would jump on stage when HHP was performing. That’s exactly what happened at the wedding when Dede and Zaz’s boy (Khuli’s old friends) and Refiloe Ramogase, Khuli’s former manager, jumped onto the stage with some family and friends to celebrate Motswako Originator on his special day.
Some kid in Sandton wouldn’t know what Motswako is. That’s to deviate from the topic, however, to give context to what Khuli is known for and for what he has been doing all along. Motswako is a mixture of predominantly Setswana and English Rap and Khuli has been one of the leaders of the movement. He has put Setswana rap on the highest pedestal, hence the Setswana theme at the wedding was also fitting.
They normally say that there are three special days in one’s life: it’s when you graduate, when it’s your birthday and when you get married. Those are unforgettable special moments.
In conclusion, we celebrate you, Motswako Originator. You got married and the bride looked beautiful and was very happy. As a Khuli’s fan, I am so happy for him, I even sent him an inbox to celebrate him. From the Motswako fraternity, we salute you, King ‘Pula’. – @NewsSA_Online
