In the rolling hills outside Modjadjiskloof, a young boy once dreamed beyond the quiet rhythms of village life. Today, that boy has found his voice – literally – on the airwaves. Mathekga Senyolo, a seasoned radio and television personality, has carved out a name for himself through persistence, passion, and a deep love for storytelling.
Born on 20 November 1983 and raised in Ga Sekgopo, Senyolo’s journey into broadcasting is a testament to resilience. Since stepping into radio in 2011, he has grown into a familiar and trusted voice, currently anchoring the Mid-Morning Connexion show on TUT FM 96.2, airing weekdays from 9 am to 12 pm. His show blends conversation, culture, and current affairs – earning him respect among listeners and peers alike.
Over the years, Senyolo has sat across from some of South Africa’s most prominent figures. His interview portfolio reads like a who’s who of the country’s cultural and political landscape. From netball leadership with Cecilia Molokwane, to the legendary presence of Dr John Kani, and the outspoken voices of political figures such as Mmusi Maimane, Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, Bantu Holomisa, Pule Mabe, and Ronald Lamola – Senyolo has demonstrated a rare ability to engage, inform, and connect.
He has also brought entertainment to life through conversations with industry figures like Skeem Saam’s Dieketseng Mnisi and Macks Papo, musicians Musa and Donald, and key industry players such as Lesley Mofokeng of the South African Music Awards and Hloni Modise of the Basadi in Music Awards.
But Senyolo’s talents are not confined to radio. His presence has extended onto television screens, beginning with a role as an extra on Generations: The Legacy between 2016 and 2018, where he appeared at Lucy’s Tavern. In 2019, he took on a more defined role as a police officer on Isidingo (SABC3), and in August 2022, he joined the popular telenovela The River Season 5, portraying Lindiwe’s tech expert – a role that further showcased his versatility as a performer.
Academically, Senyolo has continuously invested in his growth. After matriculating from Kgola Ka Leleme High School in 2004, he pursued a Bachelor of Administration at the University of Limpopo in 2005. His passion for media led him to further his studies in Radio Production and Broadcasting Journalism at NEMISA in 2019. In 2015, he also underwent training with the South African Weather Service – broadening his skill set within the broadcasting space.
Yet perhaps his most exciting chapter is still unfolding. Senyolo is currently in the final stages of establishing an organisation dedicated to discovering and nurturing fresh talent in radio and television. It’s a move that signals his commitment not just to his own career, but to the future of the industry.
