OUTRAGE: Alleged rape at police academy is a betrayal of trust, says POPCRU

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) says this week’s alleged rape incident at a police training academy in Pretoria is not only shocking, but also a serious betrayal of trust and an abuse of authority by someone who was supposed to protect and guide young recruits. The incident, which took place on Tuesday at the South African Police Service (SAPS) training academy in Tshwane, Gauteng province, has left the public outraged and concerned about the safety of trainees, especially women in training environments. The alleged perpetrator is a trainer, someone entrusted with teaching and mentoring new police officers.
