Eastern Cape police arrested a 32-year-old woman in connection with the death of her three-year-old daughter on Monday, 19 May 2025. The woman is reported to have carried and travelled with the child’s body in a suitcase in a taxi from Mzamba to the Mbizana police station. She travelled a total of approximately 30km to reach the police station, where she dropped off the child and was arrested immediately.

The mother is said to have left her three-year-old at home unattended in Mzamba to go meet with her partner on Sunday, 18 May. She told the police that when she returned the following day, on Monday, she found her child by the door and unresponsive. SAPS said that the mother chose not to report the incident when she found her child, but rather chose to wrap and conceal the body of the baby in a suitcase and travel all the way to Mbizana. The suspect is expected to appear before the Mbizana Magistrate’s Court today, 21 May 2025. She is facing charges of culpable homicide, child neglect and defeating the ends of justice. – @NewsSA_Online
