BY KATLEGO RAMMUSA:

This comes after I saw the interview with Skeem GP with Xoli Mngambi on Newzroom Afrika.
Xoli Mngambi asked a simple question to Skeem GP how can we trust you that you can lead Ekhuruleni municipality and he started to talk a lot of things some of the things he said ” I am not a politician ” so the question is what are you doing there as a Mayoral candidate? He further said, I am not a professional, ” you are playing tricks with me “; “you are grilling me”.
Clearly, Skeem was not prepared for the interview, and he is not fit for the post because he didn’t answer a simple question: How can we trust you?”
Some people might say Let us give him a chance, like Gayton Mkhenzi was given a chance as an ex-convict. The difference between Gayton and Skeem is that Gayton had proven proficiency; he was a mayor in the Karoo, and he did an exceptional job. On the other side of the spectrum, Skeem has podcast experience; he even mentioned that his podcast is number two in the country, and he has a show on Moja Love; therefore, he is fit to be a mayor. What a joke.
As South Africans, we find ourselves in the situation we are in because of a lack of leadership. Leadership comes a long way; we find ourselves having a lot of potholes, robots not working, and many other service delivery issues because the people would vote for a Podcaster, someone with absolutely no experience of leading, just because they have many followers on social media.
Then again, if one were to blame a political party that has elected an incompetent candidate, we won’t win; however, it is up to the people to decide, especially when someone fumbled on a public platform.
It is up to party leaders to elect people who have proven proficiency. As a party, when electing someone for a senior position, the question should be: has the person been involved in any leadership position? Were they part of the SRC (School Representative Council) at school? Have they been involved in any community projects?
If the answer is no, then they are not fit for the position; leaders are groomed and trained; they are not bought. Just like with any other company, when someone is about to get hired, they go through a process of interviews; then, if the candidate fails to answer questions, they don’t make it through as simple as that.
Xolani of Action SA is a better candidate because he has proven proficiency; we know his work. He has been fighting drug dealers in the country, and we know what he is capable of; we know what he can bring to the table. -@NewsSA_Online
