Dead are SA politics – so is the media that has become the walkie-talkie of such zombified politics

By Oupa Ngwenya: This is because blacks in SA politics do not matter. What residually matters still in SA politics is political parties that too have been guilt-tripped to neglect black people, as a measure of misguided and ill-informed ‘progressivism’ disbelieving that black people do not qualify to serve as the primary source, starting point and centre of concern of politics. Black people’s peripherisation is not by accident but by design. As this black neglect grows, the illusion of splintered uselessed black power scavenges on the carcass of surviving but warring loyalties hoping to outwit each other for centredness in a ‘GNU’ setting that does not hide that all this black neglect is by expressed wish of ‘the markets’ that decreed their preferred coalition formula as...

Tragic electrocution of nine-year-old child in Nala exposes governance failure

By Rorisang Rampheteng: The Democratic Alliance (DA) says a nine-year-old boy died after being electrocuted by an exposed municipal electricity cable in Nala Local Municipality over the weekend. The party described the incident as "tragic and preventable", blaming poor maintenance of municipal infrastructure and the failure in basic service delivery. DA blames neglect by municipality DA councillor in Nala, Thinus Barnard, said the child’s death should never have happened and pointed to what he described as "long-standing neglect" by the ANC-led municipality. "This devastating and entirely preventable loss of life is the direct result of maladministration, neglect and a complete lack of political will by the ANC-led Nala Local Municipality,” Barnard said...

Performance Gap Red Flags: DA Slams Mangaung’s  delivery and budget performance as service delivery crisis deepens

By Rorisang Rampheteng: The Democratic Alliance (DA) has raised serious concerns over a growing gap between reported municipal performance and the lived reality of residents in Mangaung, following the tabling of the municipality’s second-quarter Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP) performance report. In terms of Sections 52 and 72 of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality reported that 126 of 143 projects were scheduled for implementation during the second quarter. However, actual performance reached only 69%, leaving a 19-percentage-point shortfall halfway through the financial year. "This is not a technical reporting issue; it is a clear service delivery failure,” said DA Councillor Jan-Hendrik Cronje....

‘Without BEE, we wouldn’t exist’ – Telecoms leader warns against dismantling empowerment laws

By NewsSA: As debate intensifies over the Democratic Alliance’s proposal to amend South Africa’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) framework, telecoms industry players are warning that the move will undo decades of progress and push black entrepreneurs out of critical industries. “Without BEE, we would never have entered the telecoms industry,” says Sean Shipalana, CEO of Moropa Site Solutions. “It’s one of the most capital-intensive and closed sectors in South Africa. BEE gave us the opportunity to compete, build infrastructure, and create real jobs in areas that were previously forgotten.” Shipalana says BEE must not be confused with corruption. “When contracts are inflated or tenders are abused, it’s corruption. Punishing black businesses for what corr...

We need to reject recolonisation

By Fumene George Tsibani: In my considered opinion, the trajectory of South Africa's political landscape appears to be undergoing a profound transformation, warranting scrutiny through the lens of historical materialism and critical discourse analysis. The contention that we are witnessing the unfolding of Apartheid Phase II, characterised by the Democratic Alliance's (DA) consolidation of power through modernisation theory rooted in neoliberalism, merits examination. Hegemony,  Guptarisaton and Re-Bantusation Drawing upon the Gramscian concept of hegemony, it can be argued that the DA is attempting to exercise cultural and ideological leadership through its control of media and propaganda machinery. This is manifest in the creation of f...

REGIME CHANGE: The proliferation of fashionable political parties is nothing but a regime change plot

By Fumene George Tsibani: Limkile magwala ndini! It is hardly surprising that the proliferation of black fashionable political parties in South Africa has become a poignant reminder of the erstwhile homeland system, rooted in the reprehensible ideology of swart gevaar. This system necessitated modernisation to maintain the status quo, ensuring the preservation of a dual economy and social Darwinism. The first becomers The Global North funders have astutely observed that many black South Africans are enamoured with the notion of being the "first" to achieve a particular milestone. This phenomenon is evident in various aspects of life, including claims of being the first black person to reside in a white suburb post-1995, the first black engineer, medical prof...

SACP lost  both PUK number and Black Box in terms of the Global South political landscape

By Fumene George Tsibani: The South African Communist Party's (SACP) decision to contest the 2026 local government elections independently has sparked intense debate. ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has strongly criticized this move, labeling it a "monumental disaster" that threatens the unity of the liberation movement.  Mbalula argues that the SACP's decision is ideologically flawed and politically dangerous, as it will fracture the historic tripartite alliance between the ANC, SACP, and COSATU. The SACP has lost not just the PIN number but also the PUK number. It must look for the black box not from Global North but rather from Global South.  The Global South has our revolutionary friends who have both the PUK number and Black Box for our incom...

SHIVAMBU IN FREE STATE: The battle to reclaim Africa’s true freedom begins

By Becker Semela: Caption: Leading the charge: Floyd Shivambu speaks to volunteers about restoring true freedom for Africa through the Mayibuye Construction Process (Image: Becker Semela) A storm is rising in the heart of South Africa, and its name is Mayibuye. In a powerful display of political defiance and revolutionary zeal, Floyd Shivambu, the national convenor of the Mayibuye Construction Process (MCP), stood before a packed hall at the BON Hotel in Bloemfontein - not just to speak, but to ignite. Volunteers from every corner of the Free State converged, not with blind hope, but with burning questions, sharpened expectations, and a hunger for authentic liberation. This was no ordinary meeting. It was a declaration of intent. “What we are living today is not true fr...

GNU CHALLENGES: Interesting times ahead as the ANC and DA face new dilemmas in the GNU

By Pule Monama: An independent political commentator and former leader of the Azanian Peoples Organisation The President of The Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa (Image: Facebook) The DA and the ANC are now at loggerheads, at least in public! Could we say the same thing about them in private? What exactly they are saying to each other in private is anyone's guess. But what we know for certain though, is that what brought them together was the two elephants in the room, the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The DA, on the one hand, would rather go back to the ANC and mend whatever broke their otherwise fragile relationship. On the other hand, a section of the ANC would want the same. But the dilemma the two are facing is whether a coali...
